To best serve policies and best practices of ISP and email providers, as well as CU*Answers standards of compliance, maintaining accurate DNS records are integral for credit unions wishing to deliver emails from their own email domain (such as email@mycreditunion.org).

Purchase of this option allows credit unions to strengthen their security posture, as well as improve the deliverability of client facing emails sourced from CU*BASE by adding DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) records and SPF (Sender Policy Framework) records to your DNS (Domain Name System).

DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) is an email security standard that helps detect whether messages are altered in transit between sending and receiving mailservers.

SPF (Sender Policy Framework) is an email authentication standard that domain owners use to specify the email servers they send email from, making it harder for fraudsters to spoof sender information.

Adding DKIM and SPF to CU*BASE generated emails is a time consuming multi-step and multi-system process.  Valid DKIM and SPF standards in DNS records are required for any “From:” email address used within CU*BASE.

Adding DKIM and SPF to CU*BASE generated emails is a time consuming multi-step and multi-system process.

This process includes:

  • Validating DNS for SPF records
  • Generating and granting client a DKIM (public key) DNS record.
  • Advising on adding public key to DNS servers, and testing to verify entry.
  • Adding DKIM signing to CU*BASE sourced emails once all DNS entries are validated.
  • If CU*Answers manages the credit union DNS, we will be assisting in getting the DNS entry in place.
  • For credit unions that manage their own DNS services, coordination will be required.

To verify you have a proper SPF record, please review this AnswerBook article. Specifically your SPF record must be valid, and have the directive: “include:spf.cuanswers.com” or equivalent.
